I am thrilled to announce that for the third consecutive year, I will be participating as a lead mentor in Pharrell's Black Ambition competition. This initiative is more than just a competition; it’s a movement aimed at leveling the playing field for Black and Hispanic entrepreneurs who are often overlooked despite their boundless potential.
Black Ambition operates on a belief that resonates deeply with my personal and professional ethos: while Black ambition is limitless, access is not. The initiative, a non-profit effort, strives to close the opportunity and wealth gap through entrepreneurship. By investing capital and vital resources, Black Ambition empowers high-growth startups that are founded by Black and Hispanic visionaries, ensuring they receive the support they need to thrive.
This year is particularly exhilarating for me. Joining forces with esteemed colleagues like Felecia Hatcher, Shane Kelly, and Marcia Chong Rosado, we're set to mentor a group of extraordinary founders from across the nation. Our collective goal is to guide these talented individuals through the intricacies of startup success, from refining business models to scaling their operations effectively.
Adding to the excitement, two alumni from PitchBlack, an initiative very close to my heart, are among the semi-finalists this year. David Ngene, Jr., the innovative mind behind Pacmodo, and Martinique Lewis, the creative force of the ABC Travel Greenbook App, have both made significant strides in their entrepreneurial journey and are now contenders for the million-dollar grand prize. The prospect of these brilliant entrepreneurs, whom I've had the pleasure of watching grow, stepping into the spotlight to compete at this level fills me with immense pride.
As we gear up for this year's competition, I am reminded of the powerful impact that dedicated mentorship and strategic support can have on emerging businesses. At Vanport Studio, where fostering diversity and excellence is at the core of what we do, my role in Black Ambition serves as an extension of our commitment to nurturing an environment where underrepresented entrepreneurs can excel.
Stay tuned for updates as we progress through this transformative journey, and join us in cheering for David, Martinique, and all the inspiring competitors. Their success is a testament to what is possible when ambition meets opportunity.
